I recently moved to Timberlea, NS (near Halifax), with my puppy Wildcard to be closer to my family. In my previous job, I worked at the Developmental Assessment Consultation Services (DACS, a multidisciplinary Autism assessment hub) the York Region Preschool Speech and Language Program (YRPSLP, the government funded 0-5 SLP program) and the Tri-Region Infant Hearing Program (IHP). When COVID hit, I was instrumental in helping our programs move into the world of virtual services. We hit the ground running doing developmental assessments virtually and the paediatricians I worked with said that they actual far preferred using teletherapy.

I accept a person's way of communication as genuine and the best way for them. I look to helping others accept this way of communication so that your family and the child's daycare or school can create a comforting and accepting environment, while elevating your child's communication. This is why I work with you, your family, your child, other caregivers, their daycare or school, and overall their whole team. My sister is Autistic and has helped me to shape the way I do therapy to make sure that it's accepting and insightful for families.

One of the therapies at the forefront of neurodiversity-affirming therapy is Natural Language Acquisition (NLA) for Gestalt Language Processors (GLPs). Check out my blog post [coming soon!] on NLA if your child appears to speak in scripts or repeat things that they've heard before!
